Folder 7: Cox's Resignation as Assistant Secretary of HUD, 1970
Scope and Contents
This sub-series contains information about an accusation made by William Gordon Dillon of the “Virginia Observer” in 1969 and 1972 that Cox misused public funds while working for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. This led to an FBI investigation. Cox was eventually cleared of all charges, but was censured for misjudgment. Cox resigned from HUD about this time, but denied that his reasons were connected with the investigation. Material in this sub-series relates to the investigation and Cox's resignation from HUD. Additional material on these topics may be found in the sub-series containing news clippings. Material dates from 1969-1972.
