Scope and Contents
Copy of a survey map of Fort Nelson performed by Col. Thomas Newton on July 8, 1799. The map shows the fort and its borders, the Elizabeth River to the north and south, and a small house on the west side of the fort. Fort Nelson was destroyed after the Civil War and is now the site of the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.
