The collection contains programs, annual reports, handbooks and other material related to the Old Dominion University Department of Music. The department became the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music in 2019, but the bulk of the records are from when they were a department.

Biographical or Historical Information

The mission of the Old Dominion University Department of Music is "to train capable, effective music educators and performers and to guide the early education of students of music history, theory, composition and jazz." Since accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music since 1978, four graduate and undergraduate degrees with fifteen concentrations, as well as two certification programs and one undergraduate minor are offered. The Department of Music also presents "more than 120 recitals, concerts, and master classes" each year. In 2019, the department became the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music. References: F.
